I love bookstores. Especially cute and quirky ones. I have a favorite in Boston and in Asheville, NC. So whenever I travel I am always excited to find the local independent bookstores to visit.
My husband and I were in New Orleans last weekend and found several bookstores, but the most amazing was Faulkner House Books. Not far from Jackson Square and in the shadows of St. Louis Cathedral, it is tucked away in Pirate’s Alley in what were William Faulkner’s rooms at one time. The bookstore is lovely with a wonderful selection of new titles and an amazing collection of first editions.
My husband procured a signed first edition of Raymond Carver stories and picked up a copy of Faulkner’s “New Orleans Sketches.” Due to the nature of the Raymond Carver, we had the lovely woman working the store ship it home and it arrived the day after we did.
Faulkner Books was a lovely respite amidst all the craziness of the French Quarter as the pre-Mardi Gras debauchery flowed outside. I highly recommend if your travels ever take you to New Orleans that Faulkner House Books be a mandatory stop if you love books and bookstores.
What are your favorite bookstores? Are you like me and have a “bucket list” of bookstores to visit?
